PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Plans, implements, supervises and evaluates activities provided within the computer lab.  Teaches and upgrades participants' basic computer skills and assists them in using educational software matched to their needs.

 

KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):

Program Development and Implementation

  1. Create an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes:
  • promote and stimulate computer skills program participation;
  • provide guidance and role modeling to members.

Program Development and Implementation

  1. Effectively implement and administer programs, services and activities for drop-in members and visitors. 
  2. Ensure other Club staff members are familiar with the curriculum and are able to continue program. 
  3. Monitor and evaluate programs, services and activities to ensure safety of members, quality in programs and appearance of the branch at all times.  Prepare periodic activity reports according to grant requirements. Administer pre- and post-tests to program participants.

Supervision

4.   Ensure a productive work environment by participating in scheduled staff meetings. 

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.   May participate in special programs and/or events.

RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal:  Maintains close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/ instructions; instruct; and advise/counsel. 

External:  Maintains contact with external community groups, schools, members' parents and others to assist in resolving problems. 

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED: 

  • BA in computer information systems, education or related field from an accredited college or university or 4 years experience.
  • Valid driver's license with good driving record and access to a motor vehicle with appropriate insurance.
  • Experience working with and teaching computer systems to youth ages 13-185 an educational environment.
  • Computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Windows, Publishing software.  Web development and programming skills preferred.
  • Proficiency in Digital Arts Festival, Image Makers and Music Makers programs.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills, high creativity and the ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical issues (hardware and software).
  • Experience managing employees and coordinating or working with volunteers.
  • Belief in the mission and purpose of the organization.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Physical requirements: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and policy manuals.  The ability to clearly and concisely exchange/receive ideas, facts and or technical information with others. Ability to visually monitor activities of club members.  The employee is required to use hands to handle or feel and reach with hands and arms.The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, climb or balance, and stoop, jump, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is required to operate a motor vehicle.  The employee is occasionally required to sit.  The employee may frequently lift or move up to 10 pounds. Working environment:  Normal club environment.
