Position will serve our West Sanford and East Altamonte Clubs
Under general supervision of the Director of Arts Programs, the Graphic Design Instructor is considered a professional, practicing teaching artist and is responsible for the development, direction and management of Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida's Youth Arts Initiative program at the Club level. The Graphic Design Instructor will collaborate with the Club program team to design and implement a rich graphic arts program focused on digital design and editing graphic art projects for prints to include bleed, trim, cut paths, etc. The Graphic Design Instructor is responsible for delivering youth centric arts programming shaped with active, real-time influence and input of youth participants on program content and approach. Programming must hold youth to high expectations, provide hands-on skill building with current, professional technology, engage key stakeholders and culminate with high-profile public events.
Provide Professional Arts Instruction to Club youth
• Establish and maintain, in collaboration with youth, an environment of physical and emotional safety
based on respect at all levels.
• Provide hands-on, experiential learning through digital arts based on results of Club implemented
youth surveys and focus groups.
• Lead five six-week arts programming blocks throughout the year: Two in the fall semester, two
in the spring semester and one during the summer. Each program session should consist of skill
development classes at least twice a week for two hours and at least one three-hour open studio time.
• In collaboration with youth artists and supported by other Club staff, organize and design a graphic art project from start to finish to include a storyboard, proofs and edits.
• Adhere to all requested program evaluation and documentation protocol detailed by Boys & Girls
Clubs of Central Florida.
2 Develop and Deliver Relevant High-Quality Graphic Arts Training
• Provide youth participants with exposure to graphic design, plus the skills and guidance to find their own voices through the graphic arts.
• Design skill development and open studio classes for ALL skill levels (non-artists, beginner, intermediate and advance artists).
• Include training in a variety of digital arts media, with specific focus on designing graphics, editing, editing, storytelling as well as other digital media driven by the interests of the youth.
• Lead skill development/open studio time, and time for peer-to-peer learning.
• Encourage youth to build their own portfolios, find their preferred medium and work independently within the group setting.
• Ensure that quality arts entries are developed for the Annual Arts Exhibition program.
• Educate young artists on equipment and proper use of materials.
Serve as a Club Staff Team Member and Youth Mentor
• Participate in all required and recommended Club trainings and staff meetings.
• Serve as an adult mentor to all Club youth.
• Serve as a champion for high-quality arts making and lead professional development workshops/ trainings in the arts for other Club staff across the organization.
SKILLS AND TRAITS:
Graphic Design Instructor
• Has earned markers of success in the field of graphic and exhibits artwork in public arts institutions.
• Holds a relevant Bachelor of Fine Arts or Master of Graphic Arts degree in the field of graphic design
• Is proficient with Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign
• Has worked in a mentorship/teaching role with tweens and teens.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• Holds a relevant Bachelor of Graphic Design or a related field/equivalent training/work experience
• Minimum of two to five years professional/public experience in graphic design.
• Demonstrated successful experience utilizing current, professional-level equipment and technology related to the digital arts. (e.g. Adobe Creative Suite specfically Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign)
• Excellent design skills across various formats (print ads, web ads, etc.)
• Ability to carry a project from conceptual development to refinement to production-ready art
• Has experience producing and presenting at professional, high-profile artistic events
• Experience working with youth, minimum two years in an afterschool/out-of-school or community environment.
• Experience teaching/mentoring, minimum two years, preferably in an afterschool/out-of-school or community environment.
ENVIRONMENTAL AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
Instructors will have access to a fully dedicated studio space within the specific Club. Youth programming should be the primary focus of the Instructor; however, collaboration with the Club staff should take place to plan all additional programming, professional development and networking opportunities.
Visual: Normal acuity required daily for making color distinction, depth of sight, preparing/analyzing figures, computer use and written records
Communication: Able to express thoughts and ideas in an accurate and understandable manner through verbal and written format with internal and external contacts (8 hours per day)
Movement: Ability to maneuver within work site 6-8 hours per day
Lifting/Pulling/Pushing/Carrying: Able to comfortably move and manipulate up to 30 lbs. of weight
Travel: Required to travel by car to other Clubhouse locations. Valid driver's license, motor vehicle insurance and clean driving record required.
