Job Summary: Support the strategic direction for major, capital and planned giving from individuals and will identify, cultivate, solicit and steward current and prospective donors. 

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Include the following, other duties may be assigned.

  • Collaborates with the Vice President of Development, the President and the Corporate Board, to execute a strategic plan for major, capital and planned gifts focused on single and multi-year resource development efforts.
  • Conducts prospect research on the individual donor base, develops cultivation strategies and solicitation plans in concert with the Resource Development team, and participates in the solicitation process as appropriate.
  • Manages organizational efforts around cultivating, securing, and stewarding major and planned gifts.  Supports organization's strategic initiative to increase participation in The Milbank Society and The Heritage Club.
  • Supports strategy sessions with board members, development of agendas and related briefing materials, and meeting follow up to drive next steps.
  • Sets activity and revenue goals for major, capital and planned gifts efforts in collaboration with Vice President of Development and President.  Evaluates progress toward those goals, compiles status reports and trends analysis, and identifies opportunities to improve results.


Internal:  Maintain oral and written contact with the Development Department, Corporate Board of Directors, organizational staff and volunteers for the purpose of exchange of information, to provide progress reports regarding activities and planned programs, and to coordinate initiatives.

External:  Maintain oral and written contact with current and prospective donors, professionals in fields related to development efforts, business leaders, community groups, etc. for the purpose of exchanging information and ideas and for the purpose of fundraising.


  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in related field.
  • A minimum of five years work experience at a non-profit agency, specifically in the field resource development & marketing, with increasing responsibility and documented fundraising success.
  • Advanced knowledge of fund-raising techniques and demonstrated ability to organize and coordinate successful fund-raising campaigns.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with peers in an energetic Development Department.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Club staff, Board members, volunteers, community groups, and other related agencies.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, proficiency in word processing and databases, and experience in donor database applications (Raiser's Edge preferred.)
  • Valid driver's license with good driving record with consistent access to a motor vehicle with appropriate insurance coverage.


Physical requirements:  Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and policy manuals.  Ability to write reports and correspondence.  The ability to clearly and concisely exchange/receive ideas, facts and or technical information with others.  Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.  The employee is required to use hands to handle or feel and reach with hands and arms.  The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk.  The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.  The employee is occasionally required to operate a motor vehicle.  Work environment:  Normal office environment.
